(Un)spinning trajectories, weaving links between artistic generations
bonart barcelona - 24/10/26

Artistic training does not end in the classroom, but continues to unfold in the practices, research and experiences that define each professional career. Based on this idea, the Suñol Foundation presents (Des)filar trajectòries, an exhibition that puts into dialogue the works of alumni artists of the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Barcelona with pieces from the Suñol Soler Collection signed by creators who have also been linked to the university institution. The meeting proposes a transversal reading of contemporary creation, in which the affinities, differences and connections between generations weave a network of relationships that goes beyond individual itineraries.

The exhibition, the result of a collaboration between the Suñol Foundation and Proretorn, a teaching innovation group at the Faculty of Fine Arts, is based on the Cicle de Retorn project to propose a transversal reading of artistic trajectories. Rather than establishing a distinction between emerging artists and established figures, the exhibition seeks to generate correspondences between different moments of creation, linking methodologies, languages and processes that share a formative origin, but that have evolved in different ways.

The title contains one of the interpretative keys of the proposal. The play between parading and spinning refers, on the one hand, to the succession of trajectories that have left their mark on contemporary art and, on the other, to the need to build connections between these experiences. Parading implies showing, making visible a journey; spinning, on the other hand, suggests a continuous action, a work of relationship that unites apparently separate elements. The exhibition moves precisely in this intermediate space, where affinities are not always evident and where the dialogue between the works allows new readings to be discovered.

In this sense, the value of the exhibition lies in the possibility of understanding the history of art not as a linear succession of names and recognitions, but as a network of relationships, transmissions and divergences. Academic training appears as a starting point, not as a framework that necessarily determines subsequent evolution. The works become witnesses to autonomous journeys that, when found within the exhibition space, can establish formal and conceptual resonances beyond their generational distance.

(Des)filar trajectòries brings together works by Sandra March, Carla Arenas, Mariya Alipieva, Núria Guerra, Lídia Moreno, Àlex Costa, Las Taradas —Marta Fuertes and Mariema Soler— and Carlos Alguacil, artists linked to the Cicle de Retorn project. Their proposals, which embrace formats as diverse as installation, drawing, video and publication, dialogue with works by Ignasi Aballí, Susana Solano, Eloi Puig, Ramon Parramon and Òscar Padilla, present in the Suñol Soler Collection.

The diversity of media introduces a plurality of rhythms and approaches that avoids reducing the dialogue to a simple comparison between generations. Installation, drawing, moving image and editing allow us to explore different ways of articulating visual thought and of relating to materials, spaces and systems of representation. In this intersection, the works not only reflect particular trajectories, but also highlight the complexity of the processes through which an artistic practice is constructed, transformed and finds its place in the cultural context.

Driven by teachers Marc Anglès, Mireia Feliu, Jo Milne and Eva Vila, the Cicle de Retorn project aims to strengthen the links between the faculty, its alumni and the professional world. The collaboration with the Suñol Foundation extends this desire and positions the collection as an active reading space, capable of welcoming new interpretations based on the encounter between works from different origins and times.
