From February 7 to May 31, 2026, the Céret Museum of Modern Art hosts Mimosa , a monographic exhibition dedicated to Hippolyte Hentgen, curated by Gwendoline Corthier-Hardoin, the creative project born from the collaboration of Gaëlle Hippolyte (Perpignan, 1977) and Lina Hentgen (Clermont-Ferrand, 1980), who have been working together for 18 years.

The exhibition brings together a hundred pieces—paintings, installations, drawings, collages, sculptures and videos—that offer a broad and coherent panorama of his singular artistic universe. Through Mimosa , visitors can discover how Hippolyte Hentgen combines materials, techniques and concepts to create a visual language rich in textures, forms and narratives that invite reflection.

Gaëlle Hippolyte, born in Banyuls-sur-Mer, and Lina Hentgen, from Clermont-Ferrand, joined forces eighteen years ago to create Hippolyte Hentgen, an artistic duo born of complicity and brotherhood. "We didn't know each other, but there was a great affinity between us", they explain.

The duo's work mixes codes from the history of art, comics, the press, animation, as well as anonymous posters and photographs, giving rise to an ambivalent, exuberant and critical visual repertoire, where popular imagery is transformed with fantasy and insolence. The title of the exhibition, Mimosa , is a tribute to the nature of Céret and the chromatic intensity of this tree in winter, evoking the energy and warmth that runs through all of their work.

The exhibition opens with several murals created in situ, in which the artists transform the museum walls into monumental frescoes that dialogue with a set of drawings. This practice of drawing constitutes the core of their collaboration, each representing forms of their time.

In addition to drawing, Hippolyte Hentgen's universe is nourished by shared references: modern painting, the graphics of interwar posters and contemporary music. From this common imagination emerge visual assemblages that unfold in series of collages, pastels and sculptures.

The tour includes some of the most emblematic series of the duo's career: the Résistantes paintings, the Demain 88 compositions, the Breek and Sentiments Adrifts tapestries, as well as the “soft” sculptures called Bikini Invisible. Several pieces have been created especially for this exhibition.
