The Cuixart Foundation has kicked off the commemoration of the centenary of the birth of Modest Cuixart (1925–2025) with an institutional event held at the Picasso Museum in Barcelona. The event, which took place on February 17, 2026, was attended by prominent figures from the cultural and institutional community, and serves as the official inauguration of a project that will extend until 2028.

The Centenary of Modest Cuixart, curated by Ricard Planas and Raquel Medina, aims to reclaim and highlight the artist's legacy from a contemporary perspective, offering the public a new perspective on one of the most influential names in the Catalan and international avant-garde of the 20th century. Cuixart is recognized for his creative freedom, experimental rigor and ability to transcend artistic labels, opening paths that still inspire new generations today.

The Cuixart Year program includes a wide range of activities: exhibitions, conferences, publications, educational projects and contemporary creation proposals. The program places special emphasis on the artist's international dimension and explores lesser-known areas of his work, such as his works on paper, collages, as well as his links with the performing arts, science and mythical nature.

Featured exhibitions of the Modest Cuixart Centenary (2025–2027)

The Centenary of Modest Cuixart (1925–2025) proposes a wide-ranging exhibition tour that will extend between 2025 and 2027, with museums and leading institutions that will host projects dedicated to different facets of his work.

Among the first exhibitions stands out Vincles. Cuixart conversa con la colección Thyssen , at the Museu Carmen Thyssen Andorra (21 February 2025 – 4 January 2026), curated by Pilar Giró, which establishes a dialogue between the artist and the international collection. At the same time, Cuixart en el temps. Un trásin por la seva ovara , at the Espai OBA in Barcelona (20 November 2025 – 20 February 2026), explores the fundamental stages of his creative journey starting from the Pàmies Collection.

In 2026, several exhibitions will be presented focusing on specific themes in his artistic universe. Cuixart: Nature, myth and memory at the Museu del Suro in Palafrugell (2 May – 26 July) and Cuixart and the performing arts at the Institut del Teatre in Barcelona (May – November), both curated by Raquel Medina, reveal the artist's dialogue with nature, myth and the stage. At the same time, the Miserach Biennial, with Cuixart a tres bandes (Palafrugell, August – October 2026), curated by Maria Planas, broadens the view of the artist's creative influences and relationships.

Other unique projects include Cuixart: Living Geology , at the Robert Fàbregas Cuixart Foundation – Les Bernardes de Salt, Girona (March – June 2026), curated by Robert Fàbregas and Silvia Arnau, and Cuixart at La Casa de la Paraula in Santa Coloma de Farners, with Marc Cuixart and Sebastià Goday at the helm.

In 2027, the tour will culminate with Cuixart in Retrospect at the Reial Cercle Artístic de Barcelona, curated by the Cuixart Foundation, and with Brossa-Cuixart at the Lluís Coromina Foundation, while other institutions, such as the Terracotta Museum, the Vila Casas Foundation, the Josep Pla Foundation and the Casino de Manresa, are working on exhibition projects still in development.
