The Espai Cuixart hosts an exhibition that connects two creative paths that crossed more than three decades ago. Maïs Jorba , sculptor and multidisciplinary artist, claims the memory shared with Modest Cuixart through a set of works that draw on artistic coexistence, collaboration and friendship.

The exhibition, which opens today, May 1, offers a direct encounter with the way of making, thinking and feeling art that they both shared and presents pieces that they created together, especially during the 1980s, when Maïs worked closely with the painter in his studio. Ceramics, organic forms and hybrid works have been preserved from that period. It also includes later works by Maïs that, despite being independent, keep the painter's influence alive. Among them, La Gàbia d'Or, conceived from shared experiences, and a large-format installation on violence, with red mannequins, which occupies four meters in height.

Modest Cuixart, known for being one of the central figures of the Dau al Set group, had a way of relating to art that was full of symbolic gestures. One of the most remembered was that of burying the brushes that he could no longer use, as if it were a farewell ritual. Maïs not only observed this attitude, but also understood it and made it his own in a different way. This capacity to absorb, reinterpret and transform is also present in all his work.

The exhibition is part of the commemorative events for the centenary of Modest Cuixart. In this context, the Cuixart Foundation proposed to Maïs to actively participate in the celebration, recognizing his career and, especially, his link with the painter. It is not only an exhibition, but also a way of affirming the role of Maïs as an artist with his own voice within the contemporary panorama, since his artistic career is not explained only through Cuixart. He has exhibited everywhere, has coincided with names such as Ràfols-Casamada, Guinovart or Claramunt, and has managed to maintain his own line. This exhibition highlights this career and the way in which he has been able to build a personal language without losing the connection with those who have been references.
