Marc Larré arrives at the La Mercè Cultural Centre with a proposal that questions the classic ways of conceiving sculpture. In Mènsula, columna, capitell, the Barcelona artist rethinks the values that have historically been attributed to this discipline, often linked to rigidity, monumental verticality and the solemnity of heritage. Far from these conventions, Larré works with materials such as clay, latex or plaster - elements usually underestimated due to their apparent fragility - to place them at the centre of a new way of understanding the relationship between form, body and space. With a critical, but also intuitive and artless gaze, Marc Larré confronts his artistic practice with the stories that Western historiography has established as unique.

The proposal, which is part of the Vanishing Points cycle of the Vila Casas Foundation , highlights how sculpture can become a tool for rethinking what we conserve, how we conserve it and, above all, why, ceasing to be an immutable and untouchable presence to approach the gestures, the footprints and the traces that inhabit it and transform it. The idea of heritage is disassociated from the sacred and immovable piece to adopt a permeable and reactive attitude, a living heritage, which is affected by the passage of time and by contact with reality. The works do not seek to conform to any formal standard; rather, they open spaces for what often remains invisible: textures, marks, processes.

As Natàlia Chocarro , curator of the exhibition, explains, Mènsula, columna, capitell proposes “a journey that goes from the most symbolic architecture to the gesture linked to the humblest trace, expanding the limits of the sculptural to also include that which is permeable to time and space” .
