Catalan photography loses a creator of great sensitivity and depth. Marta Povo Audenis (Barcelona, 1951) developed a career marked by a personal look at light, spaces and forms, with a work that transcends the documentary function of photography to delve into the realm of experience and intuition. Her death, lamented from the cultural sphere, invites us to recover the legacy of an author who understood the camera as a tool to observe the world and explore what often remains invisible.

Trained in Art History and Cultural Anthropology at the University of Barcelona, Povo began her photographic career in the early 1970s and has been professionally dedicated to this discipline since 1978. During the following decades, she developed an intense activity in the fields of architectural, interior and landscape photography, in a professional context still dominated by men. At the same time, she built her own artistic work, characterized by visual research and a special attention to the expressive capacity of light.

His work addressed diverse spaces and themes, from crafts to gardens, spas and architecture. Among his projects , Oficis artesans de la ciutat stands out, a photographic investigation that documented the work processes, tools and hands of professionals, preserving a documentary dimension without sacrificing the plastic quality of the images. He also participated in publications dedicated to Catalan architectural and landscape heritage, contributing to giving visibility to spaces and ways of life that are part of the collective memory.

In his personal work, light became much more than a technical resource. It was an expressive matter, a way of establishing relationships between the visible and the suggested, between the physical presence of objects and their inner resonance. This conception gave shape to a photographic universe that moves between document and visual poetry, with a sensitivity that invites us to look beyond the surface of things.

Her career was also characterized by a notable pedagogical dimension and by the will to share her research. She taught photography and participated in numerous individual and collective exhibitions. Her work has been part of collections and exhibition projects that have contributed to placing her in the panorama of contemporary Catalan photography.

Her legacy allows us to recognize an author who made the gaze a form of knowledge and photography a space for personal research. In her images, light not only reveals forms, but also suggests presences, raises questions and establishes a dialogue between the outside world and the sensitivity of the observer.

The recovery of his work, partly preserved in the Barcelona Photographic Archive, will allow us to continue delving into a unique trajectory within Catalan photography. A gaze that found in light the guiding thread of an artistic investigation and that leaves an imprint marked by sensitivity, introspection and the will to go beyond appearance.
