The Academy of Fine Arts of Sabadell, a Private Foundation, recovers the link with one of the city's most renowned artists with Paintings, an exhibition dedicated to Agustí Puig (Sabadell, 1957) that proposes a journey through his most recent plastic research, without losing sight of some of the previous stages of his career. The exhibition allows us to approach an artistic language in constant evolution, marked by the intensity of the gesture, the strength of the material and an expressiveness that crosses different disciplines.

Puig's relationship with the Academy goes back a long way. In 1983, when he was beginning to define his path as a creator, he presented his first solo exhibition there. That first encounter with the institution is part of the beginnings of a career that, over time, has achieved international recognition. Later, in 2004, the Sabadell Art Museum dedicated Idediari 1992-2004 to him, an exhibition that delved into a significant period of his production.

The current exhibition resumes this dialogue with the city and with an institution linked to its artistic origins. The selected works allow us to observe the transformations of a visual universe that is articulated from human figures, animals, symbols and calligraphic signs. These elements configure an open imaginary, in which memory, nature, Mediterranean culture and the human condition are related without being subject to a single narrative.

Agustí Puig's painting is characterized by intense gesturality and a material conception that turns the surface into a space for experimentation. The line, the stain and the density of the materials participate in the construction of images that oscillate between figuration and abstraction, between the recognition of forms and their dissolution. This expressive freedom also extends to drawing, sculpture and engraving, disciplines that expand the possibilities of his language and demonstrate an artistic practice that avoids closed formulas.

Beyond the selection of works, Pintures acquires a special significance due to the moment in which it is presented. After a few years of deliberate silence in his public presence, Puig once again places his work in the foreground without breaking the permanent link he maintains with Sabadell. The exhibition thus becomes an opportunity to meet again with a creator who has built his own voice within contemporary art and, at the same time, to recognize the continuity of a relationship that is part of the city's cultural memory.
