Bonart lands in Colombia
As summer draws to a close, Bonart heads to Colombia for a particularly significant week in its international history. Medellín and Bogotá will host a program that combines the launch of issue number 3 of the magazine's international edition, with a special focus on the Colombian art scene, and the unveiling of a new collaboration between Catalan and Colombian institutions. These two events will strengthen ties between the two regions and coincide with one of the key moments on the Latin American art calendar: the ARTBO fair in Bogotá.
The first stop will be Medellín. On Tuesday, September 22, at 7:00 p.m., the Museum of Modern Art of Medellín (MAMM) will host the presentation of the new international issue of Bonart, an edition that pays particular attention to Colombian art and its cultural ecosystem. The event will feature Alejandro Tobón, an artist included in this issue; Gustavo Villa, art collector; Silvana Tobón, cultural manager and art researcher; María del Rosario Escobar, director of the Museum of Antioquia; Christian Padilla, historian and curator; and Ricard Planas, director and founder of Bonart.
The choice of Medellín as a starting point is no coincidence. The city has established itself as one of Colombia's most dynamic centers for artistic production, research, and debate, and the meeting at the MAMM will allow for the presentation of a publication that understands internationalization not as a simple geographical expansion, but as an opportunity to establish new dialogues with the cultural contexts it engages with.
Two days later, on Thursday, September 24, the tour will continue in Bogotá. At 7:00 p.m., the Edgar Negret Museum will host the unveiling of a work resulting from a collaboration between the museum and the urban artist El Xupet Negre. The event will bring together the artist himself with Edgar David Buitrago Mancilla, the museum's director; Fernando Cuevas, curator, cultural manager, and artist; David Planas, representative of the Generalitat of Catalonia; and Ricard Planas.
The presence of Fernando Cuevas also provides a direct connection with the artistic programming currently taking place in Barcelona, where he has curated the exhibition of Leonel Castañeda, the Cos dels cossos at the Espai Isern Dalmau of the Fundació Lluís Coromina (it will have a later stop at the Banyoles headquarters), thus reinforcing a network of exchanges that connects projects, artists and cultural agents from both sides of the Atlantic.
The second Colombian event will coincide with the start of ARTBO, which will be held in Bogotá from September 24 to 27. This timing will place the presentation within the context of one of Colombia's major art weeks, when galleries, museums, collectors, artists, curators, and institutions concentrate their activity in the Colombian capital. During those days, Bogotá will become one of the main meeting points for contemporary art in South America.
For Bonart, this presence in Colombia represents a continuation of its commitment to building an international publication capable of forging genuine connections with the artistic scenes it covers. The third international issue, the presentation at the MAMM (Museum of Modern Art of Medellín), and the collaboration with the Museu Edgar Negret are all part of the same strategy: to position the magazine as a space for exchange between regions and, at the same time, to support projects that transform the editorial relationship into a cultural collaboration.
