The Maria Barbal Public Library in Tremp hosts Texts and textures. Literature by Maria Barbal and textures by Palmira Rius , an exhibition that puts literature and contemporary textile creation into dialogue based on the work of the Tremp writer Maria Barbal and the artist Palmira Rius.

The exhibition, which can be visited until October 16, is a traveling proposal that will visit different libraries in the Lleida region. The Maria Barbal Public Library in Tremp becomes the first facility to host this project, thus establishing a particularly significant connection with the author who gives the space its name.

Presented with the participation of Palmira Rius and Maria Barbal and with the welcome of the mayor of Tremp, the exhibition starts from a simple but suggestive premise: transferring the written word to the realm of matter and allowing literature to be perceived also through shapes, textures and colors.

The tour is structured around twelve literary quotes taken from different works by Maria Barbal and selected by the writer herself. Each fragment finds its correspondence in one of the twelve textile pieces created by Palmira Rius, establishing a relationship that does not seek to literally illustrate the texts, but rather to generate new readings based on their atmospheres, emotions and meanings.

This correspondence between literature and textile art turns the exhibition into a space of translation between two creative languages. Barbal's words momentarily leave the page to come into contact with the relief, composition, color and expressive possibilities of Rius' fabrics.

The value of the proposal lies precisely in this capacity to broaden the reading. The textile works do not function simply as a visual accompaniment to the texts, but as a second voice that allows us to approach Barbal's literature from a sensorial and three-dimensional perspective.

Texts and textures thus proposes an experience in which words and matter complement each other without losing their own identity. The result is an intimate dialogue between two disciplines that share the same concern for memory, emotions and the ability to construct imaginaries from seemingly everyday elements.

The Maria Barbal Public Library in Tremp, named in honor of the local writer, is the first stage of a project that will continue its journey through other libraries in the Lleida region. The exhibition allows, in this way, to bring Barbal's work closer to new audiences and, at the same time, to claim the possibilities of contemporary textile art as an artistic language capable of establishing conversations with other disciplines.
