The Marges-U Gallery and the Cadaqués Friendship Society have joined forces to promote an artistic and community meeting to create points of connection between Catalonia and Japan.
It is for this reason that, starting on Friday, September 4 at 11:00 am, the official inauguration of this festival will be held at the Societat de l'Amistat de Cadaqués. A second inauguration has also been scheduled for September 5 at the Galeria Marges-U. This new proposal will bring together artists, galleries, creators, the neighborhood and visitors around the connections between two cultures with a deep identity, a great artisanal tradition and a special link to the themes of landscapes, the sea and nature.
This year's participants in this first festival are: Galeria BI-DAMAS (graphic work by its artists), Lluís Estopiñan (Cadaqués Friendship Society, cyanotype and paintings), Yoshiko Fujinami (will show her latest work), Kasui Fukunaga (calligraphy and engraving), Eiko Kamiyama (drawing and bound book), Keiko Kawase (calligraphy and photography with a biblical spirit), Nobuko Kihira (paper workshop and paper exhibition), Kumiko Tani (drawing with collage), Nobuko Ueda (papers), Tsuguo Yanai (will exhibit her latest work) and the students of the IE of Cadaqués (at the Friendship Society). The exhibitions will be open to the public until the 27th (at the Friendship Society) and the 28th (G. Marges-U & Espai Tarongers) of September 2026.
The directors of the Galeria Marges-U, Gustau Carbó and Nobuko Kihira, explained that "the main objective of this first festival is to highlight the similarities between Catalan and Japanese sensibilities, that is, the mutual respect for materials and manual processes, attention to detail, the memory of territories and the ability to seek beauty in the everyday" and added that "with this initiative we want Cadaqués to be an international meeting point in order to reinforce the role of the municipality as a cultural reference in Catalonia".
