Auction to benefit the 'Paint the Church' project at the Patrick J. Domken Gallery
A work by Marús Ferrín will be put up for sale to raise funds for the improvement of the facade of the church of Santa Maria.
The Patrick J. Domken Gallery will be the setting, next Saturday, August 29 at 7:00 pm, for the Charity Auction that will feature a painting donated by the artist Marús Ferrín i Marco and which is intended to raise funds for the Pintem l'Església project, which is promoted by the City Council of the consistory and which consists of improving the facade of this historic building. Marús' painting, which is made with the dry pastel technique, reproduces the church of Santa Maria de Cadaqués.
It should be said that, three years ago, the Barcelona artist exhibited in Cadaqués and learned that there was a local movement that was asking for the monument to be repainted. On the other hand, the City Council informed her that they were working on a project together with the Bishopric of Girona, which had to take into account the heritage value of the building. Marús explained that "I got in touch with Patrick J. Domken and, together with the collaboration of the City Council, we decided to carry out this project. I am aware that with the sale of my painting we will not be able to paint the entire church, but I do hope that it will encourage other people to mobilize for this good cause".
Patrick J. Domken and Marús Ferrín hope that the auction will arouse the interest of both art lovers and neighbors committed to this charitable cause, in a day that combines cultural patronage and local solidarity.
This event is part of the cultural initiatives that the Empordà town hosts during the summer months, as Cadaqués becomes a meeting point for artists, collectors and visitors.
Parallel to the auction, the Patrick J. Domken Gallery inaugurated on August 22, until September 9, Ferrín's new temporary exhibition entitled From the Village to the Sea , with a performance by Enor Phillippe Do.
The exhibition brings together a whole series of minimalist seascapes and still lifes, half of which are village landscapes and half are seascapes. The painter has stated that she began most of this production in situ , but ended up painting them in her workshop in Toulouse, along with the photographs she took.
It should be said that the work that will be auctioned can be seen in this same exhibition and is the only one that pays homage to the church of Cadaqués.
Marús Ferrín, a lover from Cadaqués
Marús Ferrín, who considers herself a self-taught artist, has a strong bond with the city of Cadaqués, as her parents' family home is there, where she met her husband and got married. The people of Cadaqués inspire her greatly and motivated her to start painting and are the protagonists of most of her creations.
Ten years ago, the painter met the French artist Sophie Amauger, who taught her the dry pastel technique, which is widely used in Anglo-Saxon countries, and she left ink to dedicate herself exclusively to painting in this way.
Ferrín comes from Barcelona, the city where he was born, and has lived in Toulouse for many years, where he has his workshop.
