Peralada and a celebration that looks to the future from artistic excellence
The Perelada Festival commemorates four decades of history with a unique scenic and gastronomic experience and a program that reaffirms its commitment to contemporary creation.
The Perelada Festival has celebrated its 40th anniversary with a proposal expressly conceived to vindicate the path taken and, at the same time, project itself towards the future. 40 years on the road , a scenic-gastronomic experience directed by Joan Anton Rechi and with a culinary creation by chef Paco Pérez, has turned the commemoration into a sensory journey where music, theatre, words and gastronomy have merged to explain the identity of one of the benchmark festivals of the performing arts in Catalonia.
The celebration went beyond a commemorative event. It was a declaration of intent regarding the festival model that Peralada has built over four decades: a proposal based on artistic excellence, the uniqueness of experiences and the constant dialogue between tradition and contemporaneity.
The evening brought together artists, creators, collaborators and friends of the event on an emotional journey through its history, with interventions by Xavier Sabata, Montserrat Seró, Mark Milhofer, Dani Espasa and Rossy de Palma, who gave shape to a multidisciplinary proposal capable of uniting diverse disciplines and sensibilities under the same story.
One of the most significant moments of the evening was the presentation of a fragment of Sing Child Sing , the new creation of the British choreographer Botis Seva, performed by the artist himself. The work was commissioned by the Fundació Castell de Peralada after Seva was awarded the third edition of the Carmen Mateu Young Artist European Award, an award that symbolizes the festival's commitment to new scenic languages and to supporting emerging creators. The piece also became a metaphor for the future that Peralada wants to continue building: a space where artistic innovation plays a central role without renouncing the legacy accumulated over forty years.
This balance between memory and renewal is precisely one of the features that have defined the evolution of the festival. Far from limiting itself to showcasing big international names, Peralada has consolidated a model that promotes its own productions, commissions of new creations and absolute premieres, actively contributing to the development of the lyrical, musical and scenic panorama.
The commemoration of the fortieth anniversary is also the culmination of a particularly symbolic edition, which will continue until August 9 with a program that reflects this desire to open new paths without losing its essence. Among the most outstanding events are the recital by the prestigious organist Montserrat Torrent, the concert by Jordi Savall, the new opera Estètica i massacre , with music by Carles Prat and stage direction by Oriol Pla, as well as the absolute premiere of Diario di una madre , by Alberto García Demestres.
The closing of this commemorative edition will come with an exceptional concert at the Palau de la Música Catalana starring the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra, conducted by Pablo Heras-Casado. The event will serve to simultaneously celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Bayreuth Festival and the 40th anniversary of the Perelada Festival, establishing a dialogue between two institutions that share the desire to understand music and the performing arts as a transformative cultural experience.
