On June 26, 2026, the University of Cantabria (UC) and the Botín Foundation signed a new agreement strengthening their collaboration, with the aim of developing joint initiatives that promote creativity and innovative thinking among students, faculty, and researchers. This relationship, which already has a history of more than 30 years, includes actions in the areas of training, research, and the development of academic programs.
Among the first actions undertaken, the creative thinking training received by the UC's governing team at the Botín Centre stands out, as does the incorporation of a creativity workshop in the Doctoral School, which has already benefited 15 doctoral students. This workshop aims to stimulate the participants' capacity for reflection and critical thinking, fundamental elements in their academic training.
Furthermore, on June 29, students, faculty, and researchers from UC will participate in one of the international studies developed by the Botín Centre in collaboration with the Yale University Center for Emotional Intelligence. This research will analyze how live artistic experiences influence individuals' emotions and creativity.
Íñigo Sáenz de Miera, CEO of the Botín Foundation, emphasized the importance of this agreement, stating that young people's education should not be limited to the acquisition of knowledge, but should also foster their ability to ask questions and develop their own critical thinking. In this regard, art and creativity are valuable tools for activating these processes of reflection and innovation.
Upcoming initiatives include a welcome event for Erasmus students in October, as well as other activities to be announced in the coming months. Through these actions, the Botín Foundation and the University of Cantabria aim to create an enriching environment for the educational community, fostering interaction between art, science, and innovation.
