The Pau Casals Museum, located in Sant Salvador (El Vendrell), will host the official presentation of Yolandita , one of the most representative sculptures by the Catalan artist Jaume Plensa, on July 2 at 7 p.m. The work, temporarily lent by the sculptor himself, will be part of the historic gardens of the Vil·la Casals from June 2026 to December 2027, coinciding with the commemorative events of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Pau Casals.

The presentation will feature Jaume Plensa, internationally recognized for his monumental sculptures that explore concepts such as silence, identity, memory and the human condition. Yolandita is an imposing white bronze head measuring 195 × 93 × 86 centimeters, a sculptural typology characteristic of his most recent production, in which the human face becomes a symbol of reflection, serenity and spirituality.

The sculpture will be installed in the center of the noucentist gardens of the Vil·la Casals, designed in 1931 by the architect Antoni Puig Gairalt. Its presence will establish a suggestive dialogue between contemporary art and the existing sculptural heritage, sharing space with works such as the Apollo by Josep Clarà or the Flowers by Josep Llimona, as well as with other pieces that form part of the museum's artistic ensemble. This temporary coexistence reinforces the link between contemporary creation and the cultural legacy of Pau Casals, in an environment of great historical and heritage value.

One of the most universal Catalan sculptors

Born in Barcelona in 1955, Jaume Plensa is today one of the most internationally renowned contemporary artists. His monumental sculptures are part of the public space of cities such as Chicago, New York, London, Madrid, Seoul, Tokyo, Montreal and Rio de Janeiro, often becoming urban icons. His artistic language combines the human figure with letters, symbols, light and noble materials to transmit a universal message of peace, coexistence and introspection.

Throughout his career he has been distinguished with numerous international recognitions, among which the National Prize for Visual Arts, the Medal of Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres from the French Government and several honorary doctorates stand out. In 2019 he received the Pau Casals Award, granted by the Government of the Generalitat de Catalunya, in recognition of his extraordinary artistic career and the international projection of Catalan culture.

The arrival of Yolandita at the Pau Casals Museum represents an exceptional opportunity to closely contemplate a work by one of the great creators of our time and to discover the dialogue that is established between music, sculpture and landscape in one of the most emblematic cultural spaces on the Catalan coast.
