The Portuguese capital is preparing to host a new edition of ARCO Lisboa 2026, one of the most important contemporary art fairs on the European scene, which will celebrate its ninth edition from May 28 to 31, 2026. During those days, Lisbon will become an international meeting point for gallery owners, collectors, curators and specialized public, reinforcing its position as one of the great cultural centers of the continent.
The event will take place, as is tradition, at the Cordoaria Nacional, a historic space on the banks of the Tagus River that lends a strong symbolic character to the fair. This venue, a landmark of Lisbon's cultural life, combines architectural heritage and contemporary design, offering a unique setting for artistic exhibitions and dialogue.
An international showcase for contemporary art
ARCO Lisboa 2026 will bring together 63 national and international galleries, selected for the quality, innovation, and diversity of their offerings. The fair will provide a comprehensive overview of contemporary art, with works encompassing various languages, disciplines, and formats, from painting and sculpture to more experimental and multimedia pieces.
This pluralistic character makes the fair a key space for discovering emerging trends and new visual discourses, consolidating its role as a reference platform for the art market in southern Europe.
Opening Lisbon and new curatorial narratives
One of the highlights of this edition will be Opening Lisboa, a section dedicated to emerging galleries and innovative projects. Its aim is to give visibility to new voices in the contemporary art scene, fostering experimentation and the discovery of expanding creative practices.
This ninth edition also features the Archipelago of Art Stories project, a curatorial proposal focused on memory, inherited knowledge, and cultural lineages present in contemporary artistic creation. Through this approach, the fair proposes a reflection on identity, tradition, and contemporaneity, connecting the past with the narratives of the present.
Dialogue, thought and the art market
The program is rounded out by the Millennium Art Talks, a series of conversations that will address key issues within the contemporary art ecosystem. Topics include collecting, patronage, art consulting, and the curatorial dynamics that shape today's art market.
These sessions aim to bring the public closer to the most relevant debates in the sector, creating a space for exchange between professionals and visitors.
Recognition and support for artistic creation
As in previous editions, ARCO Lisboa will also recognize the work of artists and galleries through various awards. These include the Fundação Millennium bcp Award for Best Stand, the IV Fundação Vieira de Almeida Acquisition Prize, and the Opening Lisboa Award.
These awards not only recognize excellence in exhibitions, but also boost the visibility of artistic projects and reinforce the fair's commitment to promoting contemporary talent.
