At the end of May, the Catalan art world gathers for one of its great annual celebrations: the Night of Galerism. This year, the MACBA hosted the nineteenth edition of the GAC Awards, awards that recognize both consolidated trajectories and innovative projects that contribute to dynamizing the contemporary artistic panorama of Catalonia. In an edition marked by recognition of the solidity of the gallery network despite the challenges of the sector, the Joan Gaspar, Antoni Pinyol, Alegria, Sorondo Projectes and Rocío SantaCruz galleries have been distinguished for their outstanding work.

The evening, promoted by Galeries d'Art de Catalunya and jointly organized with Art Barcelona, also reserved some of the most emotional moments for the tributes dedicated to key figures of the Catalan artistic ecosystem. The artist Francesc Torres and the Mayoral Gallery received the Honorary Awards, while the Carmen & Lluís Bassat Foundation was distinguished with the Visual Arts Promotion Award. The awards, held in front of more than two hundred people, highlighted decades of commitment to the creation, collecting and dissemination of contemporary art.

Other award winners include curator Nekane Aramburu, critic Ricard Mas, the podcast El mundo del arte con Carmen Corbera and the National Collection of the Generalitat de Catalunya. The jury for this edition, chaired by art critic Conxita Oliver, was made up of Salvador Juanpere, Pilar Cruz, Eudald Camps and Antoni Ribas, reaffirming the prestige of the awards that, year after year, are consolidated as an essential thermometer of current art in the country.

Among the outstanding awards of this edition, the Mayoral Gallery has received the Honorary Award for the career of a gallery for four decades of commitment to modern and post-war art, consolidating itself as an international reference in the work of Miró, Dalí and Picasso. The artist Francesc Torres, pioneer of video art and key figure of Catalan contemporary art, recognized for an international career marked by video installations and reflection on memory, history and the human condition, has also been honored.

The Prize for the Promotion of Visual Arts has distinguished the Carmen & Lluís Bassat Foundation for its work in the conservation and dissemination of Catalan contemporary art, while the National Collection of the Generalitat has been recognized for its model of public and decentralized collecting. In the field of criticism and dissemination, the awards have gone to Ricard Mas and the podcast El mundo del arte con Carmen Corbera , valuing their contribution to bringing art closer to new audiences.

Regarding exhibitions and gallery projects, Galeria Joan Gaspar has been awarded for Clavé en escena ; Galeria Alegría, for its annual programming; Antoni Pinyol, for the exhibition Eclipsi by Carles Pujol; Rocío SantaCruz, for La campana cósmica i el láco que respira by Dionís Escorsa; and Sorondo Projectes, for Un puñal en un pañuelo by Luis Renteria. The curatorial award went to Nekane Aramburu for the exhibition Le cercle lumineux. Entre Cocteau i Fenosa (1920-1960) , presented at the Museu Apel·les Fenosa.
