The Llum BCN festival begins a new artistic stage with the appointment of architects Xevi Bayona and Núria Prieto as artistic directors for the period 2026-2029. Their candidacy has been selected through a public competition called to define the creative future of one of Barcelona's most outstanding cultural events.

With fifteen editions under its belt, Llum BCN has established itself as an essential event within the European panorama of light arts. Each year, coinciding with the festival of Santa Eulàlia, the festival transforms the urban space into a large visual laboratory where artistic installations, ephemeral architecture, technological experimentation and light research come together.

The proposal presented by Bayona and Prieto emphasizes the transversality between disciplines and the creation of new links with the city's creative fabric. Their project defends an open perspective that connects art, architecture, science and technology, while strengthening the participation of creators, students and centers specialized in design, lighting and architecture.

The new directors also plan to enhance the professional side of the festival, generating spaces for collaboration and new dynamics within the light arts sector. This dimension aims to consolidate Llum BCN not only as an artistic exhibition festival, but also as a platform for thought, innovation and creative exchange.

The selection was carried out through an evaluation process led by a committee of experts made up of figures linked to the fields of culture, creation and artistic management. Among the criteria assessed were the conceptual solidity of the proposal, the professional career of the candidates and the sustainability approaches applied to the festival model.
