The multidisciplinary artist Perecoll presents at the Museu de Llavaneres the exhibition El negre, un repte permanent , a new approach to the plastic universe that has defined much of his career. The show brings together a series of paintings that delve into his exploration of black, the color that has become his most distinctive mark and the central axis of his visual language and has made its place in the history of Catalan contemporary art.
In his works, light, texture and volume emerge from an apparent absolute darkness. Black, far from being a limit, becomes living matter. Traditionally defined as the total absence of lights within the chromatic spectrum — an achromatic tone that absorbs all radiation — , in Perecoll's hands it is transformed into an expressive surface, a space of tension and a field of sensory experimentation. More than an "anti-color", black acts as a container of subtle nuances, reliefs and vibrations that force the viewer to approach it with an attentive and sustained gaze.
The artist has stated on several occasions that he considers black “the most poetic and elegant color”. This statement summarizes a dedication of more than thirty years to investigating its conceptual and aesthetic possibilities. His practice, however, is not limited to painting, but extends to sculpture and other disciplines, demonstrating that art can be made without any chromatic range or color, but by exploring the limits of perception.
Black, a permanent challenge is not just an exhibition, but the continuation of an obstinate search. Perecoll turns darkness into a space of contemplation and silence, and poses black not as an absence, but as a radical presence. The work demands time and stillness, and invites us to discover that, within the apparent blackness, there are an infinity of variations invisible at first glance.
