The margins are not just secluded spaces or forgotten boundaries; they are living places, full of memories and stories that often go unnoticed. It is in these less explored places where the city, nature and society intersect and are transformed. The Fer vida als marges project, within the Bòlit Mentor program, has brought together artists and high school students to approach these often ignored spaces, but also the most intimate margins, those personal corners that we tend to overlook in our day to day lives.

Three artists — Aitor Climent Barba , Jonàs Forchini and Ona Trepat Rubirola — have developed an artistic residency in various institutes of Girona and Banyoles, with the direct participation of the young people and the coordination of the curator Glòria Polls . Launched in October 2024, the project has offered participants a creative and collective experience that now culminates in a double exhibition. Forchini's project has recently been presented at the Darder Museum, while the exhibitions of the three artists can be seen at the Bòlit Pou-Rodó from today until June 29, 2025.

On the one hand, we find the work that Aitor Climent Barba has carried out with the students of the Institut Santiago Sobrequés (Girona), in which they have created a kind of fragmented map of everyday spaces —A square, two parks and a supermarket— which, over time, have become points loaded with history and personal and collective memory. Through drawing, painting and writing, the students have explored how these places are configured and the sensations that they awaken, emphasizing the importance of the paths and corners that often go unnoticed due to having them too close.

On the other hand, Jonàs Forchini has proposed an experience that has led young people from the Brugulat Institute (Banyoles) to delve into participatory photography to document the state of the water in the Banyoles lake. The surface line is a project that, using a submersible camera and a reflector to illuminate the bottom of the lake, has allowed us to reveal what is normally not seen, opening the door to a new look at its natural environment and its fragility. In a context of visual saturation and ecological concerns, this project proposes a different way of observing and relating to the nearby landscape.

Finally, Dialogues with the Ter River is the proposal of Ona Trepat Rubirola , in which she has explored the Ter River with the Institut Carles Rahola (Girona), making the students walk along it again and again until creating a bond that has led them to see it as a living space, loaded with memory and identity. Inspired by the legend collected by Joan Amades, they have made ceramic containers to symbolically guard the waters of the river, a gesture that at the same time values tradition and the connection with nature.

Making life on the margins has been an exercise in discovery that has gone beyond the simple observation of spaces. It has also been an invitation to look at oneself and recognize the constant transformation that occurs in the dialogue between people and their environment. This shared gaze, where creativity and education are combined, has helped students to think, feel and create from an active and committed position. A journey to the margins that, after all, are an essential part of who we are.
