For weeks, Gothsland Galeria d'Art has been hosting The Art of Masterprints, an exhibition that brings together around thirty prints by three giants of modern and contemporary art —Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró and Jaume Plensa —and offers a privileged look at their creative process within graphic work. Through around thirty works, this exhibition, which will be open to the public until June 27, explores the process of creating prints in the three artists, revealing their multiple facets and turning it into a field of constant experimentation for all three.

Jaume Plensa presents one of the most exclusive series of his career, limited to 30 copies and so far marketed entirely in the United States. The pieces Lucía, Carlota, Berta, Carla and Martina (2020) show female heads in superimposed layers, icons of his sculpture that transcend individual identity to explore the intangible of the human being. The photogravure Alchimistes III (2018) completes the selection, with which Plensa claims “empathy and the exchange of ideas through a broader and more inclusive communication”.

In the section dedicated to Pablo Picasso , six etchings from 1948—Visage de femme, Femme couchée dans le lit, Muse attendant d'être dépeinte, Mélancolie d'un visage féminin, Visage d'un gentilhomme and Tête de femme—capture the expressive power of the post-war period. Added is the facsimile of one of the sketchbooks the artist made in Royan in the summer of 1940, intimate testimony of his relationship with Dora Maar.

Finally, the Joan Miró section includes post-war engravings, such as Le Chien bleu, created immediately after the Constellations series, and the wooden license plates carved for the woodcut Miró Graveur I–V. Presiding over the room, the original model of the emblematic sculpture Dona i Ocell (1982) recalls Miró's deep bond with Barcelona's public space.
