Jaume Plensa

Jaume Plensa is a Catalan sculptor and visual artist born in 1955 in Barcelona. It is world-renowned for its monumental sculptures and art installations found in many parts of the world. Much of his work explores themes such as identity, memory and the relationship between the individual and society.

Plensa has used a variety of materials in his sculptures, including stainless steel, bronze, aluminum and, on some occasions, has incorporated elements such as light and water into his works. Some of his best-known sculptures include "El Alma del Ebro," an impressive figure of a seated man embracing his legs, and "Crown Fountain," an interactive work of public art and video sculpture that can be visited in the park of Chicago Millennium.

Jaume Plensa's work has been exhibited in numerous international galleries and museums, and he has won several awards and recognitions for his artistic talent and his contribution to the contemporary art scene, such as the Medaille des Chevaliers des Arts et Lettres de France ( 1993), the Fondation Atelier Calder Award (1996) or the National Fine Arts Culture Award of the Generalitat de Catalunya (1997).
