By Invitation brings together Ricard Planas and Josep Miàs around the future Coromina Museum
A conversation about architecture, identity, and new museum models places the project of the Lluís Coromina Foundation at the center of the Barcelona art fair.
The future Coromina Museum was the focus of one of the conversations at the seventh edition of By Invitation, the art fair held in Barcelona. Ricard Planas Camps, future director of the institution, and Josep Miàs, architect of MIAS Architects, starred in the session Building a museum, building a place: the future Coromina Museum, a meeting that put on the table the conceptual, architectural, and cultural challenges that accompany the creation of a new museum facility.
The conversation, held on November 6 in the auditorium on the first floor of the Círculo Ecuestre in Barcelona, addressed the need to think of the museum beyond its strictly exhibition function. The proposal starts from conceiving it as a space with its own identity, capable of establishing links with its surroundings, generating relationships with the public, and becoming an active agent within the cultural fabric.
In this sense, the perspective of Planas and Miàs allowed exploring the confluence between architecture, museological thought, and cultural commitment. Building a museum also involves defining a narrative, establishing a way to inhabit it, and imagining the forms of relationship it can generate with society. Architecture, therefore, is not only conceived as the container of the artworks but as an essential part of the experience and identity of the future institution.
The session was part of the programming of By Invitation 2026, which this year, under the concept ‘Open Weaves’, explores the connections between art, collecting, architecture, and new forms of cultural relationship.
