The history of a city is also told through its plans, drawings, projects, and architectural transformations. On the occasion of Girona's bimillennium, the Girona Branch of the Architects' Association of Catalonia (COAC) opens the doors of its Historical Archive to the public and offers an approach to the city’s past and present urban landscape through two guided tours and an architectural itinerary that focuses on 21 significant events in its evolution.

The activities aim to highlight the documentary and architectural heritage, while also asserting archives as spaces of knowledge and interpretation of the city. The first proposal, titled Archive collections: the multiple perspectives of architectural representation, will take place on Saturday, November 7 at 10 a.m., and will be led by the archivist Ariadna Olivé. The visit will allow participants to discover the diversity of materials, media, techniques, and formats that make up the COAC Historical Archive collections, as well as the complexity involved in their conservation and documentation.

The second session, Archive collections: discover Girona through an architect’s perspective, is scheduled for Saturday, December 12, also at 10 a.m. Led by the architect Adriana Vàzquez, head of the Historical Archive, it will offer a reading of Girona’s history through projects and drawings of the city. The documentation, ranging from the 19th century to the present, will allow observation of how the urban landscape has been shaped and how architecture has intervened during different stages of growth and transformation.

The program is completed with the route 21 centuries, 21 architectural events, prepared by the architect Josep M. Birulés. The itinerary invites exploration of the city through 21 architectural elements and episodes that help to understand its historical and urban development. A perspective that connects different eras, interventions, and ways of understanding architecture that have contributed to shaping today’s Girona.
