Francesca Llopis expands her legacy at Morera
The Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Lleida incorporates six works by the Catalan artist in a donation that claims a career between painting, drawing, installation and video creation.
The Morera, Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Lleida, will present on October 1, at 6:30 p.m., the donation of six works by the artist Francesca Llopis, which will become part of the museum's collections. The event will take place at Lleida City Hall and will feature the participation of Anna Llopis, head of exhibitions at the Picasso Museum in Barcelona.
The incorporation of this set of works allows us to delve deeper into a trajectory especially linked to the exploration of the limits of painting and the relationship between different artistic languages. Francesca Llopis has developed a practice that embraces painting, drawing, installations and video creation, and which has evolved from the neo-expressionist experiences of the eighties towards more poetic and conceptual forms.
In his work, memory, nature, the body and travel appear as recurring spaces of research. These are elements that allow us to understand a work constructed from the tension between matter and experience, between pictorial space and other forms of representation, and which places experimentation as one of its main drivers.
The donation to the Morera also contributes to expanding the representation of Catalan artists who, especially during the eighties and nineties, questioned the traditional limits of painting and introduced more hybrid, spatial and experiential practices. In this context, Llopis's career dialogues with that of other artists such as Fina Miralles or Eulàlia Grau, within a generation that expanded the languages and working methods of Catalan contemporary art.
