Visa pour l'Image returns to Perpignan with a photographic look at the world's conflicts and major challenges
The 38th edition of the international photojournalism festival displays 27 exhibitions in 14 spaces in the city, with figures such as Raymond Depardon and reports dedicated to Iran, Lebanon or the seabed.
Perpignan will become, from August 29 to September 13, 2026, the international capital of photojournalism with the celebration of the 38th edition of Visa pour l'Image , one of the major world events dedicated to documentary photography and images that explain current events. For two weeks, the city will be immersed in a program that focuses on the main conflicts, transformations and realities of the planet through the eyes of the photographers who have documented them.
The festival will occupy 14 exhibition spaces in Perpignan, with a total of 27 exhibitions, which will allow us to explore different ways of understanding contemporary photojournalism. Among the venues for the exhibition will be the Convent of the Minims, one of the emblematic spaces that host the festival's exhibitions, along with other places in the city center.
As usual, Visa pour l'Image maintains its commitment to public access to photography and offers free exhibitions, turning Perpignan into a great space for reflection on current events. The proposal combines the work of great names in international photojournalism with stories that often fall outside the headlines, but which allow us to understand the human consequences of the events that mark the present.
This edition will feature prominent figures in documentary photography, including Raymond Depardon, and will devote special attention to settings such as Iran and Lebanon, as well as issues related to the seabed and environmental transformations. The thematic diversity reinforces one of the festival's essential characteristics: constructing, through photography, a plural portrait of a world subject to constant change.
The exhibitions will coexist with the traditional nightly outdoor screenings, one of the most anticipated moments of Visa pour l'Image, which allow you to see on a big screen a selection of the most significant images of the edition. These sessions turn the streets and public spaces of Perpignan into a meeting point between professionals, photographers, students and the general public.
The success of the event confirms its international dimension. In the 2025 edition, Visa pour l'Image exceeded 230,000 visitors, a figure that places the festival among the great cultural events of contemporary photography and which explains its capacity to transform Perpignan during the two weeks of celebration.
