As part of the 15th edition of Art Nou, the Prats Nogueras Blanchard gallery presents The worms are starting to move in its Barcelona space, an exhibition by Aura Roig that can be visited until September 4, 2026.

Born in Tortosa in 1994, Roig develops an artistic practice in which reality is fragmented and transformed to give way to scenarios full of strangeness. Her paintings and works on paper construct a post-surrealist universe, populated by hybrid figures, phantasmagorical presences and forms that seem to exist between different worlds.

In The worms are starting to move , the artist questions conventional divisions between identities and species. Her compositions are constructed from fluid bodies and elements in constant transformation, generating an imaginary in which the human, animal and plant coexist in a relationship of interdependence.

  • Aura Roig, Fluids and the body as landscape, and the landscape as body.

One of the visual axes of the exhibition is the large-format dreamlike landscapes, dominated by mountains illuminated by intense reddish and orange tones. The light can evoke a sunset that seems never-ending, but it also takes on a more disturbing dimension, close to the image of a sky on fire.

In the foreground, hands appear that establish a game between the painter and the observer. These figures introduce a certain ambiguity about the limits of the body and representation, and invite the viewer to enter a scenario where the boundaries between reality and fiction are diluted.

Roig's imagery also incorporates a repertoire of symbols that is repeated throughout the different pieces. Eggs, eels and plant elements form part of a visual vocabulary that connects the large-format works with the smaller paintings.

  • Aura Roig, Their body is made of water. Like that of a slug: soft, smooth, slow.

The pieces function as fragments of an open narrative. In them, beings are in a permanent process of transformation, as if each body were going through a state of metamorphosis. The exhibition thus proposes an experience closer to an ecosystem than to a linear story.

This conception extends to the multi-species gaze that runs through Aura Roig's production. Humans, animals and botanical elements appear intertwined in a symbiotic relationship that questions the idea of the body as a closed and stable entity.

Each work, in this sense, poses a territory of possibilities in which identity is not defined by physical limits, but by the capacity to change, mix and adopt new forms. The worms are starting to move thus presents a universe in constant movement, where metamorphosis becomes a way of understanding existence.
