Vanessa Méndez wins the 2026 Pinnae Award
The artist has been recognized during the inauguration of the Vilafranca Firart and will exhibit at the Berger Balaguer Forum in the summer of 2027.
Vanessa Méndez has been the winner of the Pinnae 2026 Award, a recognition that was announced during the inauguration of the Vilafranca 2026 Firart. The award, promoted by the Pinnae Foundation as part of its collaboration with the competition, includes a grant of 800 euros for artistic production and the possibility of presenting an individual exhibition at the Berger Balaguer Forum during the summer of 2027.
Méndez's work focuses on issues related to memory, the passage of time and the spaces we inhabit, explored through textures, transparencies and architectural elements. The artist is also one of the three proposals selected to participate in the Firart artistic residency and this year has also taken part in the first edition of the GLOPS Young Art Biennial.
The fifth edition of Firart in its current format brings together 40 artists from different disciplines this year in the chapel of Sant Joan. The call had received a hundred proposals, of which forty were selected, 18 of which are participating in the competition for the first time. The exhibition offers a diverse panorama of contemporary creation, with the presence of painting, sculpture, photography, ceramics, jewelry and illustration, among other disciplines.
In addition to functioning as an exhibition space, Firart maintains its work sales aspect. Since 2022, the event has incorporated a raffle of works by participating artists among people who purchase a 10 euro ticket.
The inauguration was held on Thursday, August 20th as a pre-event for the Vilafranca Festival and was attended by administrators, the city's mayor, representatives of the Pinnae Foundation and those responsible for organizing the Firart. The exhibition can be visited in the Sant Joan chapel until August 31st.
