These summer weeks, when the Mediterranean is part of everyday experience and the landscape becomes one of the great protagonists of the season, the Vila-seca Castle proposes to stop and look at it from another perspective. Until September 27, the Mirada Mediterrània exhibition brings together 50 works by 15 artists who, between the end of the 19th century and the mid-20th century, found in this territory a source of artistic, cultural and emotional inspiration.

Curated by Damià Amorós, the temporary exhibition route claims a view of the Mediterranean as a space of connection and a shared identity that goes far beyond the landscape. The works of Joaquín Sorolla, Aristides Maillol, Ramon Martí, Arcadi Mas, Juan Roig, Ricardo J. Estivill, José Nogué, Baldomero Galofre, Jaume Mercadé, Joaquín Mir, Olga N. Sacharoff, Domènec Carlos, José Sancho, Eliseu Meifrèn and Jordi Sarrà allow us to construct a plural view of the same territory.

The proposal starts from painting to delve deeper into the relationship between light, landscape, culture and identity. In this sense, Damià Amorós defines the project as 'an exhibition that will give us answers to questions that we have not asked ourselves', emphasizing its reflective and evocative dimension.

The exhibition is divided into four areas. The first, Mirada a la llum , is made up of seven works, six of which are by Joaquín Sorolla. Among these pieces, an unpublished Sorolla, on loan from the Reus Museum, stands out, which allows us to delve deeper into the artist's interest in Mediterranean light and its pictorial possibilities.

The second space, Mediterranean Presence , brings together fifteen works that explore the relationship between landscape and culture. Different artists and sensibilities coincide in a territory that presents itself at the same time as a stage, memory and source of inspiration.

The third section, Land and Sea , is dedicated to Jaume Mercadé and focuses on two of the essential elements of the Mediterranean imagination. The land and the sea appear as complementary spaces that have defined landscapes, ways of life and ways of understanding the territory.

Finally, Mirada Vila-secana brings the exhibition closer to the immediate environment through the works of Vila-secà Jordi Sarrà. The Mediterranean thus ceases to be a distant or generic reality to connect with the landscape and local identity.

The exhibition thus proposes an approach to the Mediterranean that avoids the simple representation of a landscape. As Amorós points out, it is about 'rediscovering the Mediterranean not only as a landscape, but as a cultural, emotional and historical experience'.
