Agustina Garrigou and the geologies of the future
Tongue of Salt explores a territory between the surface of the earth and its deepest layers at the Terracotta Museum.
The Franco-Argentine artist Agustina Garrigou (Buenos Aires, 1985) presents Llengua de sal at La Peixera del Terracotta Museu de la Bisbal d'Empordà. The exhibition, which can be visited until October 4, is part of the cycle of temporary exhibitions curated by the Associació de Ceramistes de la Bisbal.
The exhibition proposes to enter a territory situated between reality and fiction, in the intermediate space that separates the visible surface from the deep layers of the earth's crust. Garrigou transforms this liminal place into an imaginary landscape that seems to come from a time yet to come. Tongue of Salt is thus conceived as an archaeology of the future, an exploration of possible vestiges of worlds that do not yet exist.
The works are based on a constant investigation into matter, textures, colors and organic forms. The artist observes structures present in nature - coral surfaces, mineral formations, geological reliefs or traces of erosion - to transform them into sculptures that are situated in an ambiguous territory between the known and the imagined.
Garrigou does not seek to reproduce nature, but to reinvent it. His pieces evoke landscapes subjected to processes of sedimentation, erosion and transformation, with desert surfaces, mineral textures and organic forms that seem to have survived an unknown temporality.
The sculptures function as hypothetical archaeological remains of possible worlds. Each piece suggests a story, but also invites the viewer to construct their own from the observation of the shapes, reliefs and textures.
Experimentation with glazes, colors and different ways of working with matter occupies a central place in Garrigou's practice. The result is a set of works in which the surface acquires an almost geological dimension and where the process of transforming matter becomes an essential part of the discourse.
Léngua de sal proposes, in short, a look towards a landscape without precise coordinates. A territory populated by organic and ambiguous forms, unrecognizable minerals and eroded textures that seem to emerge from the depths of the earth.
It is in this space of transition, between the surface and the deepest layers of the planet, where the work of Agustina Garrigou is located: a practice that understands ceramics as a tool of experimentation and imagination to build new geographies and think about other temporalities.
