The shutters of Roses recover the memory of the fishing world
Pau Marinel·lo transforms eight shutters on Carrer Trinitat into a tribute to the traditional trades linked to fishing.
The shutters of several idle premises on Carrer de la Trinitat in Roses have acquired a new life with an artistic intervention by Pau Marinel·lo dedicated to the town's fishing memory. The initiative, promoted by the Department of Economic Promotion of the Roses City Council, combines urban art, recovery of historical memory and revitalization of public space.
The project involved eight shutters located on the stretch of Carrer de la Trinitat between Carrer Sant Josep and Carrer Aragó. The paintings recover characters, scenes and trades related to traditional fishing, with the aim of beautifying the urban space and reclaiming one of the main features of Roses' identity.
Marinel·lo, who combines gestural abstraction with a strong mastery of realism and the human figure in his practice, has been working on the series for the past few weeks. The result turns the blinds into a kind of visual journey through the daily history of the Rosinc fishing world.

The scenes depicted are based on photographs preserved in the Roses Municipal Archives, which document different moments of life linked to fishing between the 1940s and 1960s. Fishermen, menders and workers in the sector thus appear recovered through painting in a space of everyday passage.
Among the images represented are Jaume Buscató and other fishermen beaching a boat on the beach, a scene dated between 1946 and 1949; Pere Palou Calvet fishing with a longline, around 1960; and several photographs of menders repairing nets on clotheslines or under the shade of the trees in the square, in front of Can Matas.
The series also recovers the figure of Bonaventura Deulofeu with his gambines in Plaça del Peix, in 1955, as well as Maria Dunjó Barbarà mending a net in Estenedors, around 1946-1947. The last of the scenes shows fishermen beaching the Hermanos Abad boat, also around 1955.
