The São Paulo Museum of Art (MASP) has announced the appointment of Flávia Almeida as its next president. Almeida, currently the museum's vice president, will assume the position in September, replacing Heitor Martins, who will step down after twelve years at the helm of one of Brazil's most important cultural institutions.
With a solid background in business and cultural management, Almeida comes to the presidency of MASP with extensive experience in institutional leadership. Before joining the museum, she was director of the Fundação Bienal de São Paulo, where she continues to serve on the board, and chaired the board of directors of the Tomie Ohtake Institute.
His professional career has also developed in the business world, holding positions of responsibility and participating in the boards of directors of various companies, including Península Participações, the energy group Ultrapar and the strategic consultancy Monitor Group.
Almeida began her career in 1989 at the consulting firm McKinsey & Company, where she rose to the position of partner, becoming the first Brazilian woman to reach that position within the firm. She remained with the company until 2003, before shifting her career towards institutional management and cultural projects.
With a degree in business administration from the Fundação Getulio Vargas and an MBA from Harvard Business School, the new president of MASP combines business experience, knowledge of the cultural sector, and an extensive network of institutional relationships. Her arrival marks the beginning of a new era for the São Paulo museum, which in recent years has strengthened its role as an international benchmark for modern and contemporary art in Latin America.
