Argentona celebrates the tradition of the pitcher with a new artist's piece
The Giant Artist's Pitcher 2026 by David Callau culminates an edition of the Pitcher Festival marked by creativity, ceramics and popular culture.
On August 4, coinciding with the feast of Sant Domènec, Argentona presented the Giant Pitcher of Artist 2026, a monumental piece created by the artist David Callau. The author unveiled his work in the space where it will be installed throughout the year. The piece is the result of a creative process that visitors to the Argentona 2026 International Clay Ceramics Festival were able to follow live. During the show Dues cares , shared with musician Pep Lladó, David Callau shaped the pitcher in front of the audience, turning its creation into a unique artistic experience that now reaches its culmination with the final presentation of the work.
The new creation adds to the legacy of pieces by artists who, year after year, expand the relationship between the pottery tradition of Argentona and contemporary expressions of art.
The Pitcher Rising breaks participation records
The 76th Argentona Pitcher Festival once again filled the streets of the municipality in the Maresme region with a day dedicated to popular culture, pottery, tradition and holy water. One of the most anticipated moments was the traditional Pitcher Lifting Competition, which this year reached a historic figure with more than 60 participants.
Under intense heat, the contestants challenged jugs of very different weights, from the initial five-kilo pieces to the largest specimens. Although no one managed to lift the 200-kilo jug, the competition left outstanding performances.
In the men's category, Pere Collet was proclaimed the winner after lifting the 160-kilo pitcher, while Isabel Clariana won the women's category with the 90-kilo pitcher. The growing participation of young people has been one of the highlights of a competition that keeps one of the most emblematic rituals of the festival alive.
A new signature pitcher with the contemporary look of Ramon and Gae Benedito
During the day, the Author's Pitcher 2026 was also presented, an initiative promoted by the Argentona Pitcher Museum that every year invites creators from different disciplines to reinterpret this traditional piece.
This year's edition has been designed by the creators Ramon Benedito Graells and Gae Benedito Prat, who have recovered the rounded shapes typical of pottery made on the wheel, maintaining the natural color of the material but providing a modern and refined vision.
The piece has a production of 5,000 copies and becomes part of the prestigious annual collection of designer pitchers from Argentona, a series that for decades has established a dialogue between art, design and the pottery memory of the municipality.
