Gemma Carbó will direct the Cultural Heritage area of Icub
The historian and cultural manager assumes the position after the public competition called to fill the vacancy left by Jaume Muñoz.
The Barcelona City Council has already resolved the call for applications to fill the position of director of the Cultural Heritage area of the Barcelona Institute of Culture (Icub). The person chosen is Gemma Carbó, historian, cultural manager and doctor in Educational Sciences specializing in cultural and educational policies.
The resolution of the open competition was made public this Friday and puts an end to the process initiated to fill a position that had been vacant since September of last year, after the dismissal of Jaume Muñoz, who until then held this responsibility.
The jury responsible for assessing the candidacies was made up of representatives from different areas of culture and heritage management. Among the members were Lluïsa Pedrosa, head of the Resources Directorate of Icub; Ana M. Pazos, chief archivist and director of the Municipal Archives System; Mercedes Torre, head of the Directorate of Economic Planning, Selection and Promotion Services of the People Management, Organization and Electronic Administration; Marina Miquel, deputy general director of the Architectural, Archaeological and Paleontological Heritage of the Generalitat de Catalunya; Txema Romero, director of the Sitges Museums, proposed by the executive committee of the Council of Culture; and Josep Giralt, museologist and former director of the Lleida Museum, proposed by the Association of Museology Professionals of Catalonia.
Carbó comes to the position after a career linked to research, dissemination and cultural management. Between 2018 and 2024 he directed the Museum of Rural Life of the Carulla Foundation, a period in which he promoted a contemporary look at rural heritage, sustainability and the relationships between culture, territory and community.
