Wild Paths explores the landscape as a living space for scenic creation
The new proposal by Irregulars turns the walk into an immersive choreographic experience that dialogues with memory, transhumance and ways of life linked to the territory.
Wild Paths is the new creation of the Irregulars company, a project that places the landscape at the center of the artistic experience and that understands the territory not as a simple stage, but as an active agent of dramaturgy. Conceived as an itinerant piece, the proposal invites the audience to walk and inhabit a shared space where dance, voice and landscape intertwine to generate an immersive experience that dissolves conventional boundaries between spectator and performer.
During the journey, the participants are guided by a live voice that accompanies their steps as it unfolds stories, memories and fictions linked to the places they pass through. The landscape is progressively transformed into an archive, a stage and a space of imagination, making each movement establish a subtle dialogue between the visible reality and the imaginaries that inhabit the territory. The result is a proposal that moves between individual vulnerability and the strength of collective experience.
The creation is based on research carried out between 2024 and 2025 in the Pyrenees by the company's director, Azucena Momo. This fieldwork, based on listening to and living with shepherds and livestock keepers, collects testimonies and reflections on extensive livestock farming, transhumance and the forms of relationship between humans, animals and landscape. Far from turning this universe into a folkloric or documentary representation, the project incorporates these experiences as living matter for its artistic research.
The practice of walking thus becomes a methodology of knowledge. Inspired by the daily movements of herds and the way shepherdesses interpret the terrain, Camins salvatges proposes a choreographic reading of the territory in which the movement ceases to place the human body exclusively at the center. The dance appears as a network of relationships between people, animals, vegetation, relief, climatology and time, expanding the very notion of choreography.
This approach connects with a line of thought typical of contemporary living arts, which understand artistic creation as a form of knowledge production. The body becomes a tool for reading the landscape and walking becomes a practice of attention capable of generating new ways of perceiving the environment. The proposal invites us to listen to the rhythms of the territory and to experience it from a shared sensitivity, rather than to contemplate it from a distance.
The decision to develop the show in public space responds to this same desire. Paths, towns and people are part of the dramaturgy, integrating into an experience that is built in constant dialogue with the place where it is presented. In this way, the piece reinforces an idea of dance as a relational practice, capable of establishing links between bodies and the space they inhabit.
With Camins salvatges, Irregulars continues to deploy an artistic research that finds in the crossroads between dance, voice and landscape a space of discovery and transformation. Since its foundation in 2020 by the Empordà artist Azucena Momo, the company has turned the territory into a sensitive matter of creation, where every body, every path and every encounter open up new possibilities for relationship. Its proposals invite the audience not only to observe, but to inhabit the experience from within, making shared presence the true center of the action. In this horizon, dance reveals itself as a gesture of listening and resistance, an open language that reconnects people with the landscape, with others and with the deep rhythms that sustain life.
