Links: Cuixart, Guíxols, Thyssen
The Carmen Thyssen Space, in the Monastery of Sant Feliu de Guíxols, proposes the exhibition Vincles, Cuixart in conversation with the Carme Thyssen collection.
Organized in eight sections under the curatorship of Pilar Giró, the exhibition has had the collaboration of the Cuixart Foundation and the support of the Sant Feliu de Guíxols City Council, the Girona Provincial Council and the Generalitat de Catalunya. On the occasion of the centenary of Modest Cuixart (1925-2007), a key figure in the Dau al Set group, it includes works from various periods alongside paintings by Catalan artists from other eras and sensibilities, such as Modest Urgell, Grau-Sala, Villà, among many others.
It may be a rediscovery of some images by Cuixart that contrast strongly with his figurative precedents, creating tensions and links in a risky and complicit game of winks. A work by Pepa Poch is shown next to two large canvases of the homage, establishing a titanic and powerful dialogue.
The Monastery hosts four other exhibitions spread between the exterior areas and the spaces attached to the museum itself. The intervention of ceramic pieces by Montse Lozano is integrated into the archaeological collection, while the installation by Pepa Poch occupies the rooms of a summer house from the 1920s recovered as an exhibition space. The gardens and exterior of the Monastery, as well as the walls of the noble staircase, have been intervened with large sculptural heads by Samuel Salcedo, while Eulàlia Ramon has hung her works in the entrance and reception area of the spaces.
The samples and exhibitions can be visited until October 18 with free admission, an opportunity to establish links between different generations, such as the one that the curator Pilar Giró herself created with Cuixart when creating the artist's book that is exhibited, with poems by her and plastic creations by him, in a project that now has continuity with the contemporary artists invited to the Monastery of Sant Feliu de Guíxols.
The inauguration included an aperitif offered by the Llopart cavas, from Sant Sadurní d'Anoia, based on their Monastrell must, which collaborates with the Amics Joan Petit Nens amb Càncer Foundation, contributing the profits obtained. This foundation aims to raise funds for research, support and care for children with cancer and their families, and is linked to the Hospital Sant Joan de Déu de Barcelona, the Hospital de Sant Pau and the Hospital de Bellvitge.
