La Masia Bas in Platja d'Aro presents Guinovart: from the plate to the paper , an exhibition dedicated to the graphic work of Josep Guinovart that offers a complete look at one of the most outstanding facets of the Catalan artist. The tour, which brings together engravings, lithographs and screen prints made between 1970 and 2006, allows us to follow the evolution of a creator who turned printing techniques into a space of artistic freedom, experimentation and commitment.

The exhibition proposes a chronological itinerary that highlights the changes in his creative universe. The first works, conceived during the seventies, breathe a strong social and political commitment. In these years, screen printing becomes an instrument of denunciation and direct communication, faithful to an era marked by the need to give voice to collective demands.

Over the years, Guinovart's language transforms. During the eighties and nineties, the compositions are filled with the Mediterranean light and the colors that the artist contemplated from his home, but also with memories of the fields of Agramunt, where the wheat, stubble and earth deeply marked his sensitivity during the years of the Civil War. The blue of the sea and the ochre tones of the earth become essential elements of a work that seeks to transmit emotions through color and matter.

This dialogue with nature coexists with another of Guinovart's great passions: poetry. The artist maintained a close relationship with numerous poets and often translated their verses into visual language. The exhibition includes the series Las cuatro estaciones , created together with José Hierro, as well as lithographs inspired by Seis poemas galegos by Federico García Lorca. Also present are works that incorporate manuscripts by León Felipe or homages to Joan Salvat-Papasseit, demonstrating Guinovart's ability to convert the written word into image.

The different techniques present in the exhibition allow us to discover the multiple ways of expression that he explored throughout his career. The lithographs stand out for the delicacy of the collages and the gouache touch-ups that the artist applied manually after printing, making each copy a unique piece.

In the engravings of recent years, however, carborundum takes center stage, a procedure that provides a powerful material density. Its rough surfaces and deep blacks, evocative of sepia ink, intensify the expressive force of the works and introduce a more introspective, almost silent language, in which the material takes on absolute prominence.

The exhibition also reserves space for the posters that Guinovart created for various major festivals and popular celebrations. These works demonstrate his desire to bring art closer to everyday life and reinforce his commitment to culture, territory and collective identity.
