The Roses City Council has launched a new pilot project that seeks to make the fishing tradition of the municipality visible through the artistic intervention of shutters of closed premises. This initiative, which is taking place in the central Trinitat street, aims to pay tribute to the fishing profession, one of the pillars of Roses' cultural identity.
The project will include the decoration of eight shutters, located on the section of Trinitat Street between Sant Josep and Aragó Streets. The first of these interventions, by artist Pau Marinel·lo, is already being carried out at number 87 of the street. The mural being painted is based on a photograph from 1955, which is part of the Municipal Archives, and which shows Bonaventura Deulofeu with two gambines in Plaça del Peix.
Marinel·lo, an artist with a wide background who combines gestural abstraction with realism, will continue working on the following blinds, which will be inspired by various historical images that reflect scenes from the fishing life of the municipality. The aim of this action is to recover the historical memory of the fishing sector and contribute to urban revitalization through art.
The council has expressed its intention to assess the continuity of this project once the pilot works have been completed, as well as the possible spaces where more artistic interventions could be carried out. This action has the support of the Public Employment Service of Catalonia, within the framework of the Local Development Support Programs.
