The new Espai Barri Vell de Girona opened its doors this year as a new space dedicated to art and culture in the heart of the city's old town, specifically at Plaça dels Lledoners, number 1, next to the Girona Art Museum.
This gallery's main objective is to become a meeting point for creators, the public and artistic activities. Its director is Roger Trilla i Jané, manager and owner linked to the gallery, who has shown great enthusiasm and motivation to carry out this project.

Since its opening, the space has programmed contemporary art exhibitions and proposals linked to local creation, such as the one carried out with the artist Judà Muñoz.
Among the highlights is Elements de l'Empordà , by Iol Baqués, in collaboration with Victoria Taylor Art Management. The exhibition opened on April 9th and will be open until May 30th, 2026.
Iol Baqués, artist from Empordà
Born in Barcelona, but with an Empordà soul, Iol Baqués is a painter and art therapist with a consolidated career and international projection. Themes such as the landscape of the Empordà, its light, the wind and the changing reliefs inspire a work that fuses the abstract and the figurative in almost dreamlike fragments. From her workshops a space is born to reconnect with oneself through color, texture and the creative process.
A self-taught artist by nature, Baqués has built over the years his own artistic language that explores the relationship between nature and emotion. His creative process starts from the careful observation of the environment and its most primary elements, such as earth, light and silence. The artist works with natural colors and mixed techniques to create pieces that convey serenity, strength and a deep connection with nature.

His work is characterized by a subtle fusion between the abstract and the figurative, generating a visual universe that invites contemplation and an intimate sensory experience. Beyond painting, his practice extends to the facilitation of creative experiences: workshops, retreats and sessions conceived as spaces of personal discovery and well-being, where art becomes a vehicle to reconnect with each individual's inherent creativity.
Some of the most outstanding works presented in this exhibition, with the technique of acrylic on canvas, are: Horitzó (2024), Brava (2024), Ànima (2025), Etern (2024) and Emporium (2024), among others.
During the course of the exhibition, different workshops for children have been scheduled: on May 8, Relleus de l'Empordà (from 6 to 9 p.m.), and on May 22, El paisatge interior (from 6 to 9 p.m.), organized by Espai Barri Vell and Victoria Taylor.
With the appearance of this new art gallery, Girona expands its cultural offering in the historic center and reinforces the presence of contemporary art in an environment of great heritage value.
