The URIBITARTE40 gallery in Bilbao will host, from April 17 to May 31, 2026, the exhibition Some Possibilities (from Trash and Simulacrum) by Pamplona-born artist Miren Doiz. This exhibition presents the results of her residency at BilbaoArte during the 2024-2025 period and proposes an objective reflection on contemporary artistic practice, the consumption of materials, and current socioeconomic realities.

Doiz's work is characterized by its constant questioning of the limits of the pictorial support. Since her university days at the University of the Basque Country, the artist has evolved from the deconstruction of the canvas towards what she calls expanded painting. This transition involves the incorporation of sculpture, where the work ceases to be an object to be observed from a distance and becomes an environment in which to inhabit the painting.

In this proposal, the artist revolutionizes traditional methods by often dispensing with gesture and brushstroke, using matter and space as the primary expressive agents. In some cases, the paint appears directly on the spatial structures, while in others, it is the absence of physical paint that shapes the pictorial discourse through various proposals.

The use of found objects becomes the conceptual core of the exhibition. Doiz employs materials recovered directly from public spaces, such as discarded glass, empty paint cans, and construction debris. This choice reflects a desire to promote sustainability and the circular economy through a process that gives new functionality to precarious elements.

These materials, in turn, serve as testimonies to social phenomena such as real estate speculation, evictions, constant renovations, and the mass production of waste. In this way, the artist links her personal position of precarity with a critique of the human impact on the environment and the current status of the creator and citizen.

The exhibition opened on Friday, April 17th, with a guided tour at 6:00 pm, followed by a public presentation. Visiting hours are Tuesday to Saturday, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm and from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, and Sundays from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Miren Doiz boasts a well-established career recognized with awards such as the DKV Estampa Prize and support from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation. Her work is part of prestigious collections such as those of the Community of Madrid and the ICO Museum, reaffirming her artistic voice as a significant voice in the dialogue between abstract expression and social critique.
