The Palau Güell in Barcelona is hosting the exhibition Gaudí: windows to the future until October 25, a proposal that explores in depth the role of windows in the work of Antoni Gaudí, within the framework of the centenary of his death and the Gaudí Year promoted by the Generalitat de Catalunya.

The exhibition is organized by the Barcelona Provincial Council and the company YKK AP, and is located in the attic of the Palau Güell. The curator is the Japanese Ayano Kikuchi, who also works as a project coordinator at the same company.

The exhibition focuses on more than 300 window designs created by Gaudí, showing how this architectural element becomes a key piece in his search for forms, light and functionality. Through original stained glass windows, decorative elements, historical mechanisms and interactive replicas, the tour allows us to understand the evolution of his architectural language from the first projects to its culmination in the Sagrada Família.

According to Kikuchi, windows are much more than openings: they represent an essential field of experimentation to understand how Gaudí explored the possibilities of architecture and the relationship with natural light.

The project also has an international dimension. In parallel with Barcelona, a satellite version has been presented in Tokyo as part of the Tokyo Architecture Festival 2026, with plans to continue later in the Japanese city of Toyama.

The initiative is complemented by activities in other spaces linked to the architect. Casa Batlló hosts the “Nits de Finestres Gaudí” cycle, with free visits during the month of June, while events will be organized at Casa Vicens and the Güell colony between April and October 2026. Palau Güell has also scheduled a series of conferences between May 13 and June 4, dedicated to delving deeper into the role of windows in Gaudí's work and their conceptual evolution throughout his career.

As a conclusion to the project, a book with the same title will be published, which will collect the contents of the exhibition and its contributions to the contemporary reinterpretation of Gaudí's architecture.
