Art criticism in Catalonia is experiencing one of its most outstanding moments today with the announcement of the winners of the Catalan Association of Art Critics (ACCA) Awards. The event, which will once again take place in the Meier Auditorium of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Barcelona, is establishing itself as an essential event to take the pulse of the country's art scene.

These awards annually recognize the most relevant contributions in the field of art in Catalonia from around thirty candidacies —six per category— selected by a committee of experts that is renewed each edition. This year, the selection of finalists has included the participation of a delegated committee formed by Ainize González, Manuel Guerrero, Anna Pahissa, Mercè Vila and Jesús Vilamajó. The final decision, however, will fall to the assembly vote of the ACCA members, thus maintaining the collective and representative nature of the award.

The history of these awards includes milestones such as the recognition of the bonart magazine, distinguished as thebest publication in 2012. In this edition, the nominations once again draw a rich and diverse scenario that reflects the vitality of criticism, research and contemporary artistic production.

In the field of art criticism, names and projects such as A*Desk, Joan Burdeus, Mercè Ibarz, Mangrana and Joan Maria Minguet stand out, which exemplify different approaches to critical writing: from rigorous analysis to more open formats that are accessible to new audiences.

In terms of research, the proposals of Júlia Llull, Íngrid Guardiola, Mercè Alsina, David G. Torres and Glòria Guirao Soro address central issues such as image politics, critical thinking or the dynamics of the contemporary artistic system.

In the curatorial category, exhibitions such as Brutal / Feral , Com des d'aquí , La muntanya analoga , Observatori and Sumari astral stand out, which explore new forms of relationship between work, space and discourse, expanding the traditional limits of the exhibition experience.

The historical area recovers and revisits key figures and episodes with exhibitions dedicated to artists such as Christo and Jeanne-Claude, Fina Miralles, Susana Solano and Eva Lootz, Marta Palau, Palmira Puig or the SIEP collective, offering new readings from a contemporary perspective.

Finally, in the categories of projects, initiatives and spaces, proposals such as Concèntric , GRAF , Jiser or Tornar a l'aigua emerge, as well as facilities such as A Cobert, Ethall, el Morera, Nyamnyam or Lo Pardal. All of them demonstrate a living, connected and constantly evolving artistic ecosystem, capable of generating dialogue and critical thinking beyond conventional circuits.
