The cultural model that has defined the Truffaut Cinema for more than two decades is facing a turning point. The Girona Critics' Group, the promoter and historical manager of the cinema, has been left out of the public competition called by the City Council for its management. From April 19, the programming and management of the cinema will pass into the hands of the Tarragona company Rambla de l'Art-Cambrils AIE, linked to Antoni Badimon.

The decision comes just months after the project celebrated a significant milestone: the 25th anniversary of its municipalization, commemorated last November with a prominent event at the Municipal Theater. That celebration not only commemorated an anniversary, but also the trajectory of an initiative that had become deeply rooted in the cultural fabric of Girona.

The origins of the project date back to the nineties, when the Col·lectiu began promoting the Setmana de la Crítica in the old Catalunya cinemas. Later, they managed to consolidate a stable proposal of auteur cinema and in original version in room B of the Modern cinema. When this facility closed, the City Council acquired the building, which allowed a new institutional stage to begin on November 17, 2000, with the Col·lectiu already constituted as a non-profit cultural association.

In the recent public competition, as reported by the Diari de Girona, only two candidacies were submitted: that of the Col·lectiu itself and that of the company from Cambrils. Interestingly, in the qualitative criteria —such as the programming proposal, the promotion of the language, the relationship with other cultural facilities or the parallel activities— the Col·lectiu obtained a higher score (42.75 points compared to the 39.75 of its competitor). However, the economic offer has been decisive: Rambla de l'Art-Cambrils AIE has achieved 49 points in this section, surpassing the Col·lectiu's 43.84.

The final result demonstrates a common tension in contemporary cultural management: the weight of economic criteria versus the value accumulated by projects rooted in the territory. In this case, the trajectory of more than 25 years of a local non-profit entity has not been sufficient to guarantee the continuity of the model.
