The Sants-Montjuïc district will star in the World Capital of Architecture during the month of April.
Throughout this month, La Lleialtat Santsenca —a community management space deeply linked to the history of the neighborhood and dedicated to promoting culture and cooperation— will host several outstanding activities, such as a workshop on wayfinding (April 14), focused on orientation and accessibility in complex architectural environments, or the session Dialogues d'arquitectura (April 20), which will address the process of covering the streets of Sants and the creation of an elevated green promenade. You can also visit the traveling exhibition From partition walls to facades . A legacy for the city , which presents ten projects aimed at transforming partition walls into green facades. The exhibition will be inaugurated on April 9 with a meeting open to the public; where the Barcelona Partition Wall Remodeling Plan and the project in the Francesc Masclans Gardens, conceived as a permanent legacy of the World Capital in the district, will be announced.
The program will extend throughout Sants-Montjuïc with routes and guided tours, such as the one of the gardens of Grec and Laribal (April 8), the tour of the old factory of the Climent brothers and the current Sants-Eixample Funeral Home (April 16), the Jane's Walk (April 18), the sensory itinerary Tanca els ulls i escoltà Montjuïc (April 24) or the visit to the Font Màgica de Montjuïc. Also, the Spring Open Barri in the Marina, organized by 48h Open House Barcelona, will discover unique spaces such as the Llobregat Lighthouse.
There will be activities designed for all audiences. Among the participatory proposals, the meeting Let's improve the neighborhood in Sants-Montjuïc (April 18) and the debate Trends of the future: architecture, urbanism and landscaping (April 16), focused on well-being and quality of life in aging. For the family audience, workshops will be offered such as Skyscrapers: challenges of height at CaixaForum (until April 26) or Draw the Pavilion with magic (April 19) at the Mies Pavilion.
The Mies van der Rohe Pavilion will also offer two open days (April 5 and 23) and with the Converses desenfadades , organized with ARQUIN-FAD, in which Michele & Miquel and Creus Carrasco architects will reflect on the value of public space.
Saint George's Day
The World Capital of Architecture will offer a family and festive day at the Casa de l'Arquitectura in Barcelona. On April 19, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., the former headquarters of the Gustavo Gili publishing house will be filled with roses, books and stories turned into tales for all ages.
Outside, a small market will be set up with book stalls about architecture and Barcelona. Plants and roses will also be sold, and families will be able to enjoy a space with games and creative workshops, including crafts.
On April 23, as part of the World Capital program, the Sant Pau Modernist Site will hold an open day with activities and proposals to explain the history of the Hospital and the rehabilitation of the pavilions.
Also in April
During the month there will be several activities related to architecture throughout Barcelona and other municipalities in Catalonia.
Among the exhibitions, Kapwani Kiwanga stands out. Changing States (from April 30 to September 13 at the Miró Foundation) and Kazuo Shinohara: The House as a Work of Art (from April 10 to May 17 at the King Martí Depository).
There will also be routes and visits, such as the visit to the Llobregat desalination plant (April 16) and new routes in the Contemporary Heritage cycle in Lleida and La Garrotxa.
Also noteworthy are the talks School of Today. School of Tomorrow (April 13, 15 and 17) at La Salle Barcelona and the Novíssims cycle, with young architects, in various cities.
April also sees the start of Filmed Architectures , a series of documentaries that will be shown on betevé until June.
