Catalan filmmaker Albert Serra has won his first Goya Award by winning Best Documentary for Tardes de soledad . The film, produced by Montse Triola, Albert Serra, Luis Ferrón, Pedro Palacios, Ricard Sales and Pierre-Oliver Bardet, builds an intimate and professional portrait of the bullfighter Andrés Roca Rey, showing in the foreground some of the most outstanding tasks of a season marked by demand and public exposure. Serra approaches it with his personal and contemplative gaze, delving into the silences, tension and human dimension of the protagonist.

The director, who had already been recognized with the Concha de Oro at the San Sebastián International Film Festival, is also competing in the 40th edition of the Goya Awards in the Best Director category, an unprecedented feat for a documentary filmmaker. This nomination consolidates his prestige within the national and international film scene.

When collecting the award, Serra dedicated it to Andrés Roca Rey and his entourage, thanking them for the "privilege of accessing his privacy." "It was a risky position because the subject is very political and complex, and they took that risk," emphasized the filmmaker, who took the stage without taking off his characteristic sunglasses and accompanied by members of his team, including Luis Ferrón, Montse Triola and Pedro Palacios.

Also the author of films such as Pacifiction, The Song of the Birds and The Death of Louis XIV, Serra has accumulated several awards over the years, such as the Gaudí Awards, the César Awards and the European Film Academy awards. Despite this consolidated career, his work has not yet been distinguished at the Goya Awards, a gap that has finally been filled with this first award.
