Antoni Forcada wins the Torres García painting prize

The winning work is exhibited at the Iluro Foundation until May 18, in an edition that marks the organizational milestone of the competition and also recognizes five other finalist artists.

The jury of the XI Torres García Painting Award — City of Mataró 2026 has awarded the prize to the work Camí de Comellans by Antoni Forcada. Born in 1950 in El Vendrell (Baix Penedès), Forcada is a technical architect and has combined his professional activity with artistic practice throughout his career.

In addition to the winner, five other artists have also been awarded: Benet Dalmau for the work Pujada del Cinto , Jordi Lafon for the work L'interès displacat , Neus Martín for Lost Poblenou , Sílvia Martínez with Renaudie quadrat and Guillermo Peñalver for Paisaje nocturno. La jarana .

The exhibition, which opened at the Ateneu Cultural Centre of the Iluro Foundation on Friday 20 February, can be visited until 18 May, coinciding with International Museum Day. The show includes the forty finalist works of the competition.

After ten editions of the award, the Sant Lluc Association for Art Mataró —an entity that throughout its twenty-five years of history has ensured the promotion of artistic activities in Mataró and the region— has handed over the organization of the Torres García Painting Award — City of Mataró to the Iluro Foundation. The competition, endowed with a financial prize of 9,000€, has a court made up of recognized figures within the artistic sector.
