There are only a few days left until the end of 2025 and museums are already starting to advance their exhibition programs for 2026. Es Baluard Museu thus consolidates its role as a reference for Balearic culture and as a key actor in the projection of contemporary art at a national and international level. Its new program places special attention on contemporary creation developed by women artists, with prominent figures such as Fiona Rae, Ghada Amer and Ester Partegàs, as well as proposals linked to the Balearic context, such as Aina Albo, popea, Mar Guerrero and Marta Armengol, who join the recently inaugurated exhibition by Jannis Kounellis.

Among the most relevant proposals for 2026 are the individual exhibitions of Rae, Amer and Partegàs —which will occupy various spaces in the Museum and, in the case of Partegàs, also in the CA2M, with whom the exhibition will be co-produced—, as well as the project by Kounellis, co-produced with the CGAC and which will continue to be one of the most outstanding cultural events of the beginning of the year. At the same time, the Museum is committed to local talent with artists such as Aina Albo Puigserver, popea, Mar Guerrero —with a joint project with Anna Talens at the IVAM within the Territories in Transit cycle— and Marta Armengol, reinforcing its link with the Balearic creative fabric. This line is completed with the work of both local and national exhibition curators, with the participation of Carolina Grau, Bea Espejo, Blanca de la Torre, Cristina Anglada, Sofía Moisés, Alicia Ventura, Clara Garau and Ela Spalding.

Es Baluard will also strengthen its presence outside its walls with four exhibition projects in collaboration with national institutions: the IVAM —with the collective exhibition A media lumbre (co-produced with Casal Solleric) and the Territories en trànis cycle—, the CA2M with the exhibition by Ester Partegàs and the CGAC with the project dedicated to Jannis Kounellis.

The Museum Collection will continue to be a central focus. After recovering its permanent room in 2025, in 2026 the first review from the perspective of performance will be carried out within the curatorial project Nachleben. The Museum as a Performative Space , curated by Iñaki Martínez Antelo, together with Soad Houman and Pilar Rubí.

David Barro, director of the Museum, states that Es Baluard “is today much more than a museum: it is an exhibition center, a benchmark for contemporary Balearic culture and an institution with its collection at the forefront”. Barro emphasizes that the Museum has consolidated “an empathetic model, capable of weaving alliances with institutions and agents in the territory”, reflected in the 35 agreements and more than 100 collaboration contracts signed in 2025, as well as in the 20 exhibitions produced or co-produced throughout the year.

The director also highlights the Museum's feminist and inclusive commitment: all exhibitions in 2026 will be dedicated to women artists, with the participation of eight guest curators in addition to the internal curatorial team. Barro highlights that Es Baluard "wants to lead cultural awareness on sustainable development, enhance the transformative capacity of art and expand beyond its walls without losing intellectual rigor."

Finally, he celebrates the growth of the institution: “We have doubled the number of Friends of the Museum, we have doubled the turnover of the shop and we have significantly increased visits and the box office, confirming that Es Baluard has become an essential event in cultural life.”
