On September 9 and 10, the Organization of Ibero-American States for Education, Science and Culture (OEI), in collaboration with the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), will organize the conference "Cultural rights and creative economy for sustainable development: contributions from Ibero-America to the global agenda".
The event will take place at the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (CCCB) and will bring together prominent cultural authorities from more than 15 countries in the region. It will be a strategic space to foster international debate in the run-up to Mondiacult 2025, UNESCO's global conference focused on cultural policies.
The debate spaces will be structured into three thematic blocks: the first will address cultural rights, creative economy and cultural diversity; the second will focus on education, territorial action and artificial intelligence. During the second day, a publication and several studies promoted by the Organization of Ibero-American States for Education, Science and Culture (OEI) will be presented, accompanied by a third debate space dedicated to local governments, artists' rights and climate action.
This space dedicated to the rights of artists will include a series of talks and interventions by prominent professionals in the cultural sector, such as Deryk Vieira Santana, Gloria Lescano, Jaume Colomer and Rafael Ivorra Zaragoza, who will share their experiences and perspectives on the challenges and opportunities that creators face in the current global context.
In a few weeks, from September 26 to October 1, and within the framework of the UNESCO Mondiacult 2025 conference, Barcelona will become the international epicenter of cultural debate, with more than 100 activities open to the public and with the participation of leading voices from around the world.
Barcelona will also become the world capital of the debate on culture and sustainable development. The city will host the Àgora Cívica, a large forum open to both citizens and cultural agents from all over the world and which was presented at the MACBA. This event will take place within the framework of Mondiacult 2025, the World Conference on Cultural Policies and Sustainable Development promoted by UNESCO, which will bring together in Barcelona the ministers of culture from all over the world. Promoted jointly by the Barcelona City Council, the Generalitat de Catalunya, the Barcelona Provincial Council and the Ministry of Culture, the Àgora Cívica highlights culture as a fundamental right and a driving force for social transformation.
