New edition of the Experimental Photo Festival in Barcelona which is celebrated from July 23 to 27 with 68 workshops and 21 exhibitions around photography. It is the annual international meeting dedicated to experimental photography organized by Experimentalphotofestival .

In the heart of the Barcelona summer, the Experimental Photo Festival is consolidating itself as one of the most vibrant and unique gatherings on the international photographic scene. More than 60 artists from all over the world transform the city into a visual laboratory where photography transcends its traditional limits: it expands, mixes with science, the body, technology and nature. Workshops, conferences, portfolio viewings and free exhibitions invite the public —specialized and curious alike— to immerse themselves in a universe of liquid emulsions, botanical antotypes, glitch art and solarigraphy. More than a festival, Experimental Barcelona is a community in motion, committed to experimentation, inclusion and art as a collective experience.

The city of Barcelona becomes the epicenter of photography with the sixth edition of the festival creating an agenda full of moments, workshops, exhibitions, conferences and artistic residencies for ten days. The activities will take place in different cultural spaces of Barcelona such as the Centro Cívic Pati Llimona, the Institut d'Estudis Fotogràfics de Catalunya, the Experimental UB or Ben Quadrat Art Gallery, under the direction of Laura Ligari and Pablo Giori.

It is a clear and direct commitment to experimentation in photography, creating a cross between disciplines and collective creation. The opening will be with Instant Flashes and Urban Traces curated by Andrés Aguilar Caro, opening on July 22 the exhibition by Clara Carrido at the Experimental HUB.

  • Work by Renata Voss.

Among the 21 exhibitions, there are Grains of Sands and Screens by Agate Estudiantina, Kaleidocity by Francesco Amorosino or Slices of Life by Raph Nevis, in addition to the itineraries created by the Experimental by artists such as Caroline Roberts, Javier Talavera, Kevin Hoth, Marc Ávila Català or Sofia Silva, among others. Of the 68 workshops, 61 will be taught by experts with photographic techniques such as cyanotype, liquid emulsion, digital glitch or pinhole solarigraphy.

The Experimental was born in January 2020 with the participation of 40 artists, 19 workshops, 4 exhibitions and 21 conferences, until it became one of the main moments of the summer in the city of Barcelona. It is a festival with important principles such as gender equality, economic transparency and horizontal structure in decision-making.
