An explosion of landscapes, of multiple colors, nature and variety of scenarios with 'Miracle Fruits'. Hulda Guzmán, an artist from Santo Domingo, takes full power with her first solo exhibition at the Museum of Sao Paulo. An exhibition that can be visited at the Brazilian headquarters until August 24, curated by Amanda Carneiro, curator of the MASP.

The Dominican artist studied at one of the most legendary and historic places, the School of Design in Altos de Chavón in La Romana, the main space for understanding the art of the Dominican Republic. From there she went to Mexico City, to later exhibit in Colorado, Washington, Santo Domingo or Miami, and in 2019 she was part of the Dominican Republic pavilion at the impressive Venice Biennale.

Now is the time for a special solo exhibition and Hulda Guzmán creates a journey based on the subversion of the tradition of landscape painting, denying the exotic and idyllic representation, but choosing to treat nature as a protagonist territory where all the elements are related independently.

His tropical and fantastical settings are inhabited by characters, real or imaginary, but his compositions are also influenced by elements with humor, in addition to a dreamlike and theatrical appeal. Three pieces are located in Guzmán's work, standing out humanity, architecture and nature, a whole set built by balance, harmony, which transports the viewer and his gaze to the reflection of current issues: the human responsibility for the preservation of the planet.

The starting point is marked by 'Come Dance - Asket Natura Kindly' which was incorporated into the MASP collection in 2020 and represents a great party in the middle of a vibrant tropical forest. Hulda Guzmán produces landscapes, but also self-portraits, establishing a direct relationship with her environment. A repertoire full of references to the history of art, architecture, modernism, surrealism, however, she also creates from ancient Chinese painting and Mexican votive offerings.

Hulda Guzmán: Miraculous Fruits are details, textures, colors, collage of people, characters, intimate and unexpected elements. All this is brought together by Hulda Guzmán and can be seen at the São Paulo Museum of Art until the end of August. Paintings with multiple visual layers, where the natural environment becomes a scene and setting, with the gaze of the viewer inviting them to look closely at her pictorial compositions, on the one hand linked to pleasures, with socialization and joy, highlighting the inseparable part between human life and nature.
