'The Don Quixote of Figueres. From the windmills to the discotheque in l'Escorxador
bonart figueres - 15/09/23

Until September 17, you can visit the temporary exhibition El Quixot de Figueres, from windmills to the disco in the Exhibition Hall of the Figueres Slaughterhouse. It should be remembered that in the mid-sixties of the last century, the Don Quijote party hall, later known as the Quixot's discotheque, was created on a plot of land in Plaça Triangular de Figueres. It became a reference in the city, also as a multipurpose space where, in addition to dances and music, different cultural events were organized.

There were panels with illustrations of scenes from Don Quixote by the artist Joan Jové, which occupied about one hundred linear meters. The Erato Choral Society should be highlighted, which is an institution founded in 1850, which was in charge of managing this room, a reference enclave for generations of fig tree lovers; many stories emerged between some unique paintings that are possibly the greatest graphic recreation of Don Quixote ever made in the world. More than half a century later, these illustrations leave the warehouse where they were kept, thanks to the cultural enrichment project of the students of the Ramon Muntaner Institute and under the direction of professor Joan Manuel Soldevilla. The exhibition is the result of the multidisciplinary work of the students, working on all the aspects that are necessary in the production and curation of an exhibition.

The same students from the Ramon Muntaner Institute's cultural enrichment project have been in charge of curating this original exhibition and in terms of parallel activities, guided tours, talks about the action by artists in the discotheques by Àlex Gifreu, graphic designer and Jordi Mitjà, artist. Also worth noting is the conversation titled Iconography of Don Quixote by Rafael Ramos, Professor of Literature at the University of Girona, and Joan Manel Soldevila, Professor of Literature at the Ramon Muntaner Institute. Other actions that have been carried out are the workshop for young people from the age of fourteen, with the aim of communicating how to improve the platform in charge of Célia Spain and which has been titled Peta-ho a Tiktok, or the competition shop windows in Comerç Figueres establishments.

This must, which was inaugurated last April 29 this year, can be visited from Monday to Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and on Sundays and holidays from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
